RELATE
PYROPHOBIA is based on the premise that to positively affect today’s at-risk youth, the program must be able to effectively relate. Housed in a teen center equipped with state-of-the-art sound and lighting, a complete skate park, plenty of room for the expression of the arts, and staffed by young volunteers eager to mentor and give positive direction, Youth Aflame is uniquely positioned to reach out and provide alternatives to negative influence and destructive behavior.
EDUCATE
PYROPHOBIA endeavors to assist the local schools by “making it cool to be involved in school”. We believe that educated youth are better equipped to positively affect society as they enter adulthood. For this reason, we have dedicated ourselves to help meet the educational needs of young people. We seek to accomplish this by;
*Providing after-school homework assistance.
*Networking a computer learning center for individual use and group instruction.
*Promoting the need for higher education.
*Encouraging and assisting young participants to reach their goals and ambitions
MOTIVATE
Young people are naturally passionate, however negative peer pressure has squelched much of the inherent enthusiasm and replaced it with an, “I don’t care” attitude. The culture of the Youth Aflame Teen Center is designed to tap into the youthful zeal and determination that has traditionally fueled young people to make constructive contributions within our society, and direct it to a positive end. Each adolescent is challenged to use their life to better the world.
FACILITATE
We believe each teen embodies tremendous potential that must be carefully nurtured and developed. Youth Aflame encourages expression of the unique gifts and talents within every young person. Our program recognizes and seeks to overcome the built-in obstacles to enable our youth to become successful, such as;
Lack of transportation
Broken homes
Anger and low self-worth
Financial hardships
Negative role models
Peer-pressure
Our enthusiastic volunteers mentor each individual teen to help them cope and eventually overcome these factors in life, while providing them an outlet to express themselves as individuals.
